‘Went Too Far!’ Fox News’ Jonathan Turley Tears Into Luigi Mangione’s Attorney Over Statement After Guilty Plea

Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley criticized one of confessed killer Luigi’s Mangione’s lawyers Friday, saying she risked upsetting the Manhattan Federal Court judge who now has to decide his sentence on federal charges.

Speaking moments after Mangione pleaded guilty during an emergency hearing to the Dec. 4, 2024 cold-blooded killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, his lawyers, including attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo, decried what they called his “unfair treatment.”

“Mangione has been unfairly treated since the outset in every way and has successfully fought off terrorism charges and the death penalty while also fighting at the same time two simultaneous prosecutions in two jurisdictions, who are trying to punish him twice for the exact conduct. He’s been treated differently from every other defendant charged with this offense in New York,” Agnifilo said.

Judge Margaret Garnett has set Mangione’s sentencing for Dec. 18.

Turley discussed the case — and how the guilty plea could impact prosecutions Mangione now faces at the state level — before tearing into Agnifilo for giving her statement:

I would have not given that statement. I think it was a mistake. The reason is you just laid out a high risk strategy, a hail Mary pass to this judge.

I don’t think it helps to go in front of her courthouse and say, “My client’s a victim and has been unfairly treated in the system.” That was the judge that just got endless criticism about her dismissal of key issues against Mangione.

So she had previously ruled in his favor in very important ways and yet you’re in front of her courthouse saying you know he’s been really unfairly treated and you know this is his struggle with the health care industry.

One of the things that judge is looking at is how to counter his message. He murdered this executive. To send a message to the country. She now has to send a message with her sentencing. And I would not have given that statement in front of her courthouse.
