‘What Is He Smoking?’ DOJ Source Reportedly Gobsmacked By Cassidy’s Claim on Department ‘Morale’

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) cited booming morale at the Justice Department as one of the factors behind his decision to vote yes on Todd Blanche’s confirmation as U.S. attorney general — a claim which reportedly left DOJ employees gobsmacked.

MS NOW correspondent Ken Dilanian reported Friday that he got a text from a DOJ staffer after Cassidy’s announcement on the Senate floor.

“What I can tell you is that at the Justice Department, there are some very strong conversations going on about how bad morale is,” Dilanian said.

“I had a text from a source over there who said that they could not believe that Sen. Cassidy described morale as high at the Justice Department,” Dilanian said, continuing:

The person said, “What is he smoking?” Because career employees at the Department of Justice are beside themselves with the direction that Todd Blanche has taken the department.

They know that he was a prosecutor for nine years, and they are just utterly perplexed at some of the decisions he’s made, and very depressed about what the road forward looks like.

We’re only a year-and-a-half into this term.

Thousands and thousands of Justice Department employees have been driven out or have left or have retired, both at the FBI and the DOJ. And there’s a lot of road left to travel here along this path that Donald Trump wants to take the Justice Department.

Cassidy claimed during his speech that DOJ employees told him, “That morale was high, not despite the accountability measures, but because of the accountability measures” put in place by the Trump administration.

In March, Blanche told an audience at the Conservative Political Action Committee convention that every DOJ or FBI employee who had a hand in the criminal investigations into Trump had either been either fired, resigned, or took early retirement.

“There is not a single man or woman at the Department of Justice who had anything to do with those prosecutions,” Blanche told the audience.
