Ex-ABC News Reporter Terry Moran Claims Outlet Was a ‘Liberal Institution’ With Zero Pro-MAGA Journalists

Former ABC News correspondent Terry Moran said his old outlet suffered from a deep-rooted liberal bias — a problem he said was created by a total lack of right-leaning journalists working for the organization. Moran claimed ABC’s dearth of pro-MAGA reporters hindered the outlet when it came to covering President Donald Trump.

He shared his two cents on ABC News — where he worked from 1997 t0 2025 — during a Friday interview on The Fifth Column podcast.

“Is ABC News a liberal institution?” co-host Michael C. Moynihan asked.

“Yes,” Moran told him, before continuing, “but I think like a lot of mainstream media, it’s because of lack of viewpoint diversity. That was one of the problems in covering Trump — nobody had voted for him.”

Moran went on a moment later, saying mainstream reporters are certainly inside a “bubble.”

“The bubble is very real,” Moynihan added.

He then pivoted to talking about ABC letting him go last year, after he ripped Trump and White House advisor Stephen Miller, whom he said was “richly endowed with the capacity for hatred.” Moran said the incident angered many viewers who felt he was not biased.

“One of the things that was striking to me was how many people who voted for Trump were very angry at me because I betrayed what they thought I had been, which was, when I covered it, I covered it straight,” Moran said. “To cover Trump too straight you have to talk about the threat that it represents to the way we’ve governed ourselves all these years.”

He continued, “That said, I’d put the work I did at ABC News out there as excruciatingly fair.”

Moran said later in the interview he would “stand by [his criticism] as an accurate and fair description of Stephen Miller.” He said the only mistake he made was he would have been better off slamming Miller and Trump in an article for The New Yorker, not on ABC.
