‘It’s Not a Fair Trade!’ ManningCast Catches Awkward Moment When 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey Rejects Post-Game Jersey Swap
In the immediate aftermath of the Minnesota Vikings’ upset win over the San Francisco 49ers, cameras caught a painfully awkward jersey swap gone wrong.
Luckily for the viewers at home, ESPN2’s ManningCast took note of the moment and the reactions were priceless.
As players wandered around the field shaking hands with one another, Vikings defensive tackle Harrison Phillips approached 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey. After exchanging a few words, Phillips began to remove his shoulder pads and jersey. McCaffrey then patted Phillips on the behind and shook his head, seemingly declining his offer to swap jerseys.
Peyton Manning was shocked at the request considering, to him, the two players aren’t in the same tier.
“Phillips?!” Peyton Manning said as he watched the moment unfold. “Phillips isn’t McCaffrey. It’s not a fair trade. It’s not a fair trade.”
Eli Manning was just as puzzled.
“Phillips and McCaffrey?” he said. “Phillips is like, ‘Hey, let’s change jerseys. Let’s trade.’ McCaffrey’s like, ‘No, no, no.'”
The two players then settled on taking a photo together.
The post-game tradition — popularized in soccer before making its way to major North American sports leagues — is typically a mundane affair. When it goes wrong, however, the results can be pretty funny. Tampa Bay Buccaneers lineman Vita Vea went viral two seasons ago when he hilariously struggled to get his pads off in the background of a live interview.
