Chris Christie Says On The View Harris Was ‘Exquisitely Well Prepared’ in Debate, But Should Be Cautious About Second Round: ‘Please Stop’
Chris Christie warned Vice President Kamala Harris against going for round two with former President Donald Trump following the pair’s ABC News debate on Tuesday.
Christie, a former New Jersey governor and current ABC News political contributor, joined The View on Wednesday and praised Harris’s debate performance, calling her “exquisitely well prepared” compared to “angry man” Trump.
“I think Sunny said this earlier, you saw someone who was exquisitely well prepared and somebody who was not,” he said.
Christie argued Trump fumbled right out of the gate after Harris made her way to his podium to shake her hand.
“If she threw him off then he’s even stupider than some people think. She did well last night, but that was a layup. You go and you shake someone’s hand,” he said.
The former governor also called it “disturbing” that Trump would not look at Harris much.
“Even when he was talking about her, he’d look straight ahead. When she was talking about him, he wouldn’t look at her, and he didn’t do that because he’s so uncomfortable,” he said.
Christie praised Harris, but said her campaign may have fumbled by making a debate challenge on Tuesday night following the ABC News event.
“She needed to show those undecided voters that she belonged on that stage, and last night she showed that she belongs on the stage. That’s why — look, I saw her campaign put out a challenge for a second debate right after the debate. Please stop. Don’t do it!” Christie said.
“Don’t toy with perfection,” View co-host Joy Behar added while fellow co-host Sunny Hostin predicted a second debate is never going to happen.
Nothing “great” can come from a second debate for Harris, according to Christie.
“Seriously, you get in a ring against a guy who has had more presidential debates than anybody in history and you knock him around. Raise your arms, go do two rallies a day, raise some money, and go home, man, because nothing great can happen for her in a second debate,” he said.
