Congressman Tells CNN Trump’s Budget Bill Has His Constituents Fearing for Their Lives: ‘Most Brutal Thing I Have Ever Seen’
Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) told CNN his constituents are “literally” fearing for their survival after President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” passes.
Crow joined CNN’s Pamela Brown on The Situation Room on Thursday while House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) neared seven hours of his “magic minute” speech in the House against the president’s budget bill.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has said he has the votes to pass the bill despite some Republican resistance over the bill, including the debt ceiling being raised. Johnson and the president set a deadline of July 4 to pass the bill. An amended version passed through the Senate earlier this week.
During Jeffries’s speech, Brown noted that Medicaid cuts included in the budget bill could lead to approximately 12 million people becoming uninsured, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
Brown asked how Democrats plan to “seize” on the potential “blowback” Republicans could receive after the bill is passed.
“I’ve been talking to my constituents. I’ve been reading their letters. The fear, the anxiety, I mean, there are literally people that I’m talking to that I represent, Pam, who don’t know if they’re going to survive, literally survive, this. They can’t pay for their healthcare bills because they have disabled children. And the coverage for these disabled children, the care that they need to be able to work, to be able to survive, to be able to get basic care is going to go away,” Crow said.
The congressman called the budget bill the “most brutal thing” he’s seen during his time in office.
“This is the most brutal thing I have ever seen in my time in public office. And that’s my focus. And we’re going to talk about it,” he said. “We’re going to fight it. I’m never going to stop so long as I’m breathing.”
