George Clooney Hits Back At Trump’s Demand He ‘Get Out Of Politics’: ‘I Will If He Does’

Actor George Clooney turned the tables on former President Donald Trump’s July demand that he “get out of politics and go back to television.” He said he was more than ready to negotiate with the former president if he would also take his own advice.

The actor, who is a prominent Democratic fundraiser, wrote a New York Times op-ed calling for President Joe Biden to step down from the election race and make way for Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the campaign. Biden’s eventual decision to withdraw and endorse Harris left Trump scrambling to adjust his campaign strategy.

Clooney appeared on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! On Tuesday night when host Jimmy Kimmel asked him about the op-ed and about the prospect of a second Trump administration.

The comedian read aloud some of Trump’s comments posted on social media about the actor, blasting him as a “fake movie actor” over his call for Biden to drop out of the race and demanding that Clooney “get out of politics and go back to television.”

“You know, I will if he does,” Clooney clapped back to applause.

“That’s a trade-off I’d do,” the Hollywood star told the host.

Clooney spoke candidly with Kimmel about his op-ed, admitting the risk of wading into the political sphere: “You have to understand that by doing this, you’re not just going after Trump, you’re potentially influencing the future of the nation.”

However, he also praised the president for his decision: “Biden did something really extraordinary.”
