‘He Doesn’t Have the Cash’: Fox’s Gasparino Defends ‘Blowhard’ Trump While Doubting His Wealth Ahead of Bond Deadline

Senior Fox Business Correspondent Charlie Gasparino blasted the civil fraud case against Donald Trump in New York while nonetheless referring to him as “a blowhard” whose net worth isn’t what the former president said it is.

Trump has until Monday to post a $454 million bond to appeal a massive civil judgment against him in that amount (including interest) after he was found liable for defrauding banks and insurers. This week, his attorneys told the appellate court that none of the more than 30 underwriters they contacted are willing to backstop that amount. There has been talk of Trump potentially holding a “fire sale,” but liquidating hundreds of billions in assets in such little time is virtually inconceivable.

Appearing on Thursday’s episode of The Story on Fox News, Gasparino shredded the case, calling it a “victimless crime” in which the institutions that New York Attorney General Letitia James said were defrauded were paid back. At trial, James’ office successfully argued Trump overinflated the value of his assets to obtain favorable terms on loans and insurance premiums.

If Trump does not post bond by Monday, James said she will begin seizing his assets.

“There’s the scary public policy implications of an attorney general essentially trying to bankrupt a guy trying to run for presidency because she’s from a different party over a non-crime. I mean, let’s face it,” Gasparino began. “He got a loan from Deutsche Bank. Donald Trump is a blowhard, let’s face it. But the bank did its own due diligence on the property in question and didn’t have a problem. And he paid all the money back or at least is good on the loan.”

Gasparino then turned to the immense bond Trump must post and referenced a claim the former president made in 2015 about being worth $10 billion.

“Here’s the thing,” he said. “And it gets back to Donald’s bloviating, you know? Eight years ago, he said he was worth $10 billion – he’s clearly not worth $10 billion. He doesn’t have the cash to do this. His properties, who knows what they’re worth? They’re not worth much on a fire sale.”

Some Trump backers have suggested that ultra-wealthy Republican should donors step in to help the former president in his time of financial need.

“Why are there no Republican multi-billionaires offering to lend President Trump the funds to file his appeal in the outrageous case in NY state?” Fox News host Mark Levin tweeted on Monday. “Are none of them liquid enough to help or join with others to help? This is an outrage.”
