‘High Stakes’: MS NOW Reporter Lists GOP Election Deniers Running In Key 2028 Swing States

MS NOW White House correspondent Vaughn Hillyard broke down Tuesday night’s primaries from the perspective of the Trump White House looking to get election deniers into office during a segment with anchor Alicia Menendez.

“As we speak right now, we’ve got voters in six states who are headed to the polls. How much is the White House going to see the results of today’s primaries through the prism of which candidates are going to carry their water when it comes to election denialism?’ Menendez asked Tuesday afternoon.

“Right, the White House is very much keyed in on who these statewide officials running for governor and for secretary of state are. Tom Tiffany, when he was serving in the U.S. House out of the state of Wisconsin, joined other House Republicans on January 6, 2021, to vote against the certification of Joe Biden as the 2020 winner. That is who is running for governor,” Hillyard replied.

Tiffany, the presumptive GOP nominee for governor of Wisconsin, will likely face Francesca Hong in the general election as she leads her primary by over 20 points in the latest polls. Hong has courted controversy with her past takes criticizing American holidays, the police, white people, and capitalism.

“And why does this matter — who is running for governor, who is running for secretary of state? It’s because those are the officials in these states who have to certify the election results,” continued Hillyard, adding:

That certification of results then makes its way to Washington, D.C., in the case of the presidential election, to be counted on the next January 6. But in the cases of House and Senate candidates, Congress is the one that then uses that verification of the certification of election results, signed by the governor and secretary of state, to move forward with the oath of office for incoming Senate and House members. That is why this is a big deal.

And when you’re looking at 2022, we focus so heavily on election deniers for a reason — it’s because those would be the folks in positions in places like Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia who would be responsible for certifying this November’s election results. And we saw election deniers for governor and secretary of state in each of those battleground states lose.

If you’re looking at Arizona, Andy Biggs is running for governor — he was part of the Stop the Steal effort. Alex Kolodin was part of the Kraken lawsuit; he’s running for secretary of state. Over in Georgia, Rick Jackson is their candidate for governor — he was someone on the front lines of election denialism. And if you look at people like Tom Tiffany, you’re also looking at Vivek Ramaswami. In Georgia, and Stacey Garrity is running for governor of Pennsylvania. She was also protesting the election results and calling for the decertification of Pennsylvania’s electors.

So you’re looking, again, much like 2022 — high stakes here, not for 2026, but for who would be certifying these results in 2028, in 2030.
