Jon Ossoff’s Opponent Accuses Him of Opposing Bill He Actually Voted For
Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) said Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) did not “lift a finger to help on the Laken Riley Act” — legislation that the senator actually voted for.
Collins is running to take Ossoff’s Senate seat in November. An InsiderAdvantage poll released on Tuesday shows Ossoff leading the House Republican 50% to 43%. The survey was conducted among 800 likely voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.46 percentage points.
Collins’ Wednesday dig centered on comments Ossoff made at a weekend rally, where he invoked President Donald Trump’s top aide, Natalie Harp.
“He golfs and trades stocks,” the Georgia senator said of the president. “See, he doesn’t want to do the job; he wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie to their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”
Since then, Ossoff has faced backlash — most notably from Republicans who blasted his remarks as “sexist.”
Appearing on Newsmax alongside anchor Rob Schmitt, Collins said the Natalie Harp jab proves Ossoff “has been out there disparaging, demeaning, dehumanizing women.”
The congressman continued, “This starts way back in the beginning of my career, uh, when I went to Congress, when he wouldn’t even lift a finger to help on the Laken Riley Act.”
The Laken Riley Act, signed into law by Trump in January 2025, requires federal immigration authorities to detain undocumented immigrants accused of certain crimes, including theft, and allows states to sue the federal government over harm caused to citizens by people in the country illegally. The measure was named for Laken Riley, the 22-year-old nursing student who was killed in Georgia in 2024 by an undocumented Venezuelan man.
The bill passed with bipartisan support, including votes from 12 Senate Democrats and 48 House Democrats. Ossoff was among the Democrats who voted for the legislation.
