Maggie Haberman Says Trump ‘Clearly Jarred’ by Harris’s Rapid Rise: ‘He Is Not in Command’ of Himself

CNN political analyst and New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman observed that former President Donald Trump “is not in command” of himself.

Appearing on Friday’s edition of The Situation Room, Haberman listened to a clip of Trump calling into Fox News after Vice President Kamala Harris delivered her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention. Trump railed against Harris and accidentally hit buttons on the phone several times while speaking.

“By the way, the beeping you heard appears to be Trump inadvertently hitting buttons on his phone,” noted host Wolf Blitzer, who said the former president also called into Newsmax. “So what do these interviews, Maggie, say about his mindset right now?”

“Look, he’s very reactive in all things when he is not in command,” Haberman replied. “And we have seen this over the course of the last nine years that he’s been in politics or in the political arena. He is clearly jarred by her. He has been trying to get back into the national conversation for several weeks now ever since President Biden announced he wasn’t running for reelection.”

Blitzer followed up by noting that in his convention speech, former President Barack Obama joked about Trump’s obsession with crowd sizes. Former First Lady Michelle Obama also gave an address.

“So, both of the Obamas’ speeches got under his skin,” Haberman replied. “He is very reactive to both of them. We have seen that since 2011 when Trump spread the lie that President Obama was possibly born in Kenya and therefore illegitimate to be president. I think you’re going to see more of this.”
