‘Unbelievable!’ MSNBC Host Blown Away After Kristi Noem’s Purse Gets Snatched With DHS Badge and $3k in Cash
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem had her purse snatched on Sunday at a restaurant in Washington, D.C., prompting serious questions about, well, security.
The purse contained Noem’s driver’s license, passport, DHS access badge, checks, and around $3,000 in cash.
Noem is protected by U.S. Secret Service, which is reviewing security footage to try to identify a suspect. The secretary said she was carrying the cash because her family was in town for Easter and was treating them to a host of activities.
“Her entire family was in town including her children and grandchildren,” DHS said in an email. “She was using the cash withdrawal to treat her family to dinner, activities and Easter gifts.”
MSNBC’s Yamiche Alcindor reported on the incident during Monday’s José Díaz-Balart Reports on MSNBC.
“She said she hadn’t spoken to Secret Service, but that the issue was not yet resolved,” Alcindor stated after speaking with Noem at the White House at the annual Easter Egg Roll. “That being said, there are a lot of questions here because the Department of Homeland Security secretary, Kristi Noem, she has a Secret Service detail. So, this is in some ways a real questionable breach of security that a thief could get that close to then steal the purse. So Secret Service is looking into this issue.”
“Unbelievable!” Díaz-Balart reacted. “You’re absolutely right, Yamiche. I mean, Secret Service detail. She’s in a restaurant and someone gets close enough to steal her bag and they don’t even know about it until later? I mean, boy, just unbelievable.”
