‘What?!’ Wheel of Fortune Contestant’s Errant Guess Elicits Groans and Disbelief
A Wheel of Fortune contestant offered an incorrect but amusing guess to a puzzle during Thursday’s episode of the iconic game show.
During the $1000 tossup round in which the puzzle’s letters were gradually revealed one by one, contestants at one point were faced with the following setup for the category, “Phrase.”

A contestant named Tavares rang it to give it a go.
“Right in the butt,” he declared.
The audience collectively groaned and one of the other contestants exclaimed, “What?!”
“No,” host Pat Sajak informed him, sounding like a disappointed uncle.
After being spotted an ‘S,’ contestant Blake rang in.
“This is the Best!” she said for the correct response.
“That’s it,” Sajak told her. “I think, yeah.”
Funny though it was, Tavares’ whiff was nothing compared to former NFL running back Rashad Jennings, who when faced with a puzzle missing just one letter – the ‘Q’ in “Quentin Tarantino” – came up totally empty. Even worse was a 2022 episode featuring three contestants who seemingly never heard the phrase, “Another feather in your cap.”
