‘He May Never Leave Office!’ Anti-Trump Protester on Supreme Court Steps Says If Trump Wins There’s ‘Plan’ To Keep Power
A protester on the Supreme Court steps before former President Donald Trump’s 14th Amendment case was to be heard told a reporter that if Trump wins “He will never leave office!”
Cameras were on hand as the Supreme Court prepared to hear arguments Thursday morning in a case that will determine whether states can ban Trump from the ballot on the grounds that he violated the 14th Amendment by engaging in insurrection on January 6.
One Associated Press reporter interviewed a protester named Lisa Fithian from a group calling itself “Remove Trump.”
During the interview, Fithian warned that if Trump wins, there’s a plan to keep him in power — and cited The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025:
REPORTER: Yeah, since, I’m sure 2016, when he initially. Yes. Yes. And now it’s 2024, he’s trying to get back on the ballot. And there’s initiatives like what’s happening in the Colorado case today to make sure he can’t be on the ballot. What do you make of the case, the importance, the historical moment that we’re seeing today from the Supreme Court?
LISA FITHIAN: I do think it’s a very historic moment, because what we’re looking at is really an interpretation of the Constitution and about whether or not if you have led, if you’ve sworn to abide by the Constitution and protected, and then you lead an insurrection, you forego your right to continue to hold a public office.
I think the Constitution is clear about that. So what we don’t know is whether the Supreme Court will actually uphold law or whether they find technicalities.
But I think in the longer view of history, it’s an essential thing that– if the presidency, if the office of the presidency is no longer accountable to the Constitution, then what future do we have in this country?
REPORTER: You feel like that sets a bad precedent. That future presidents like Trump could could carry out a thing like January 6th and get a win.
LISA FITHIAN: Absolutely! And many people believe that if Trump was to win again in 2024, he may never leave office! I mean, we saw what he did last time.
We know right now that the Heritage Foundation has a whole plan called Project 2025 that in the event– for the next Republican presidency, they want to dismantle the entire state from the inside. By infiltrating it, firing people, procedural changes, a whole plan. They have a whole plan, thousand page plan, so we know what’s coming.
If the Supreme Court rules, he can be on the ballot. We know what’s coming. If we’re not allowed to proceed with the trials, to hold him accountable for what he’s done. Whether it be for the files or the taxes or all those things.
So. And it just shows you if you have money, you can hire lawyers to create pandemonium in our legal system right now, that’s destabilizing for everybody. So it’s like we often believe what’s happening here is very clear. The cases are clear, but then all of a sudden there’s another lawsuit. Now Fani Willis is being brought up because, you know, it’s like, come on, people, come on.
So, we’re here to just say, it’s it. The time is now to remove Trump from his ability to continue to be on ballots. You know, it’s Republicans who’ve brought those lawsuits.
