After being falsely accused of groping a white woman, 9-year-old Jeremiah Harvey appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America today and recounted his harassment experience as a person of color.
“It’s still hard because lately on my mind, like, I can’t think nothing but this,” Harvey said while conducting the interview with his mother Someko Bellille. “I felt humiliated because of the way she was acting. I started to tear up.”
Surveillance cameras captured the incident in question, as Harvey can be seen walking in a deli with his accuser Teresa Klein. The now-viral footage shows the woman randomly accuse Harvey of groping her while shouting at his mother.
“It was devastating for him,” Bellille said. “Even after walking away he was pointing to, you know, patrol cars on Flatbush Avenue and saying, ‘Mommy, are they here to take you away from us?'”
“To be having a conversation with your son about sexual assault at the age of 9 — I never thought I’d be having this conversation,” she added. “That fear that was placed in your heart, it is going to be replaced with something great. You’re gonna be an example for other children.”
Harvey went on to forgive Klein for the false accusation.
“Friendship is the key, it changed my whole mind of accepting the apology that she gave me,” he said.
