The Doritos brand and the It Gets Better Project announced a new joint venture on Thursday, the direct result being the “Doritos Rainbows” chip.
According to The Daily Dot, these new chips do not necessarily offer a brand new flavor, for they are simply multi-colored versions of the popular Doritos Cool Ranch chips. Even so, it’s not every day one can stuff their faces with the five colors of the famous Pride flag.
So what’s the gimmick? The Rainbows chips are a part of Doritos’ effort to help raise money for It Gets Better, Dan Savage‘s pet project. The only way anyone who’s interested can get their hands on a bag is to donate at least least $10 to the cause at a special website set up for the occasion.
Before you get your pitchforks out and start raising hell, however, note that Doritos will pay all shipping expenses. In other words, every penny given to It Gets Better will actually make its way to the organization.
“Time and again, our consumers have shown us, there really is nothing bolder than being true to yourself and living life to the fullest,” said Frito-Lay CMO Ram Krishnan. “With Doritos Rainbows chips, we’re bringing an entirely new product experience to our consumers to show our commitment toward equal rights for the LGBT community and celebrate humanity without exception.”
