Elizabeth Warren Reacts to Mollie Tibbetts’ Death By Defending Illegal Immigrants, Draws Outrage

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is getting a fair share of blowback from people accusing her of minimizing criminal actions by illegal immigrants following the death of Mollie Tibbetts.

Tibbetts’ disappearance garnered media attention over the last few weeks, and she was tragically found dead on Tuesday. Authorities arrested an undocumented immigrant suspected of being involved in the college students’ death, which prompted various conservatives, as well as President Trump, to use this as a case study to prove the necessity of tougher immigration and law enforcement policies.

When Warren was asked about this in an interview with CNN’s John Berman, she began by expressing sympathy to Mollie Tibbetts’ family and friends. However, Warren also used her answer to bash Trump’s rescinded child migrant separation policy and talk about how America’s immigration system needs to be fixed.

Here’s her full response:

“I’m so sorry for the family and I know this is hard not only for the people in her community, the people throughout Iowa. But one of the things we have to remember is we need an immigration system that is effective, that focuses on where real problems are. Last month I went down to the border and I saw where children had been taken away from their mothers. I met with their mothers who had been lied to, who didn’t know where their children were and hadn’t had a chance to talk with their children. There was no plan for how they would be reunified with their children. I think we need immigration laws that focus on people who pose a real threat and I don’t think mamas and babies are the place we should be spending our resources. Separating a mama from a baby does not make this country safer.”

So even though Warren did point out the need for an immigration system that prioritizes dealing with undocumented people who “pose a real threat” to American citizens, critics are dragging the senator on Twitter, accusing her of overlooking criminal aliens in order to attack Trump.
