DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings is alleged to have been involved with a violent incident at a New York nightclub on Dec. 5 — an incident in which teammate Matt Barnes is reportedly close to being arrested for choking a woman, and Cousins is being accused of sucker-punching the woman’s boyfriend.
Sacramento Bee columnist Andy Furillo wrote about the incident in a piece published on Dec. 9. In his column, Furillo referenced a separate incident involving Cousins and his brother Jaleel Cousins at a Tampa nightclub in May, during which Jaleel was tased and arrested.
It was the mention of his brother in Furillo’s column that apparently drew the ire of Cousins last week. In a video posted by the Bee, Cousins is shown pointing his finger in Furillo’s face and launching into a profane tirade against the columnist.
“We’re gonna have some real fucking issues,” Cousins said to Furillo. “Don’t ever mention my brother again. You don’t know my fucking brother.”
The video cuts away momentarily, but resumes with Cousins continuing to launch obscenities at Furillo, though he is no longer standing directly in his face.
“Fucking coward,” Cousins said. “You can say whatever the fuck you want to say about me, but don’t mention my motherfucking family.”
The Bee‘s video also showed a couple of other incidents in which Cousins had verbal altercations with members of the media.
In a statement, the Kings said: “We are committed to being open and transparent, and any hint of media censorship is unacceptable. There is an ongoing review into this matter, and we will take the appropriate steps immediately upon its conclusion.”
