Here’s a Weird ’90s Gov’t Demo on How Not to Kill Yourself with Fireworks

We’ve documented here before how people have mishandled fireworks at their own peril, but earlier today Craig Winneker tweeted out a link to this incredibly strange press conference from back in 1996 in which the Consumer Product Safety Commission explained how not to kill yourself with fireworks on the 4th of July.

First off, the demo makes use of two creepy-looking little girl dolls, one of which gets set aflame. It’s a very creepy image, but rest assured, a mildly scarier version of the twins from Shining were not even close to the weirdest part of the press conference.

They showed the dangers of what could happen when you put a bottle rocket in your pants, and this is what happens if you’re holding a lit M80 in your hand.

They also blew up a huge watermelon and a mannequin of a young teenager, just ’cause.
