One of my favorite things about iPad enthusiasm is how excited people get about what the iPad is like. “Look! You can flip the pages! Like a book!” (as opposed to, say, a book) or “Look! You can watch a movie in your lap!” (as opposed to, say, a laptop, which is so lap-friendly it has “lap” in the name). That said, yes yes I know that the iPad is an INCREDIBLE WONDERFUL MACHINE THAT WILL REVOLUTIONIZE LIFE AS WE KNOW IT (or, probably the laptop as we know it) — and, at two months old, we’re just at the beginning of figuring out cool new ways to bring it into our lives.
Which is how we get this new video currently making the rounds on Twitter: iPad + Velcro = ♥. Aw. In it, we see an iPad handsfree as it joins us in the car and on a motorcycle, which seems like a terrible idea, but also in the kitchen guiding us as we cook, or mounted on a ceiling so we can watch a very tiny picture pretty far away that we can’t reach to adjust and that might fall on our heads as we’re sleeping. Whatever – creator Jesse Roston, a filmmaker and dreamer, is sure to caution that “this is an exploration of what is possible, not necessarily what is practical. Tweet from the street at your own risk!” You don’t need an iPad to do that, of course, but you just know that there are people arrogant enough to think that their awesome driving won’t be affected. Myself, I really like the iPad mounted as a frame, with a happy slideshow cycling through. Here’s another awesome use for an iPad: Putting it on the workout machine like a magazine. Wow, that sounds awesome. It almost makes me want to actually exercise.
