Senator Dick Durbin: ‘President Trump is Dangerous’
Senator Dick Durbin, the second highest ranking Democratic member of the U.S. Senate, had a blunt reaction to one of President Donald Trump‘s latest Tweets on Friday morning.
“I think we ought to get to the bottom line here: President Trump is dangerous,” Durbin asserted on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, “dangerous because he may be obstructing justice, in terms of the investigation that really goes to the heart of our democracy —the accountability of the President, the people around him, to the rule of law — protecting our democracy from an invasion — a cyber-invasion by the Russians.”
Anchor Willie Geist had asked the Illinois senator for his reaction to Mr. Trump’s Twitter post that appeared to threaten former FBI Director James Comey. Durbin led into his “dangerous” answer by contending that the Tweet is “just another one of his fantasies that he’s putting out before the public.”
The Democratic politician later claimed that “[Trump’s] credibility has been destroyed. You know, when you’re the leader of the free world, you need to be credible not only in your own country to be an effective president, but around the world. And this episode this week is a demonstration that this president’s credibility is not very strong.”
