SNL’s Weekend Update Mocks Giuliani’s Fiery Speech: ‘Nothing Unites People Like Screaming’
The Republican National Convention has proven itself as an infinite source of political drama this week, and Saturday Night Live isn’t waiting for the end of their hiatus (or even this Saturday) to get in on the action.
Colin Jost and Michael Che appeared live from Cleveland on MSNBC last night, and did a special Weekend Update on the “White Rio” that is the Quicken Loans Arena. The duo went across the board, ribbing everything from having Scott Baio and Willie Robertson as keynote speakers, to Chris Christie‘s “plagiarism” (wink, wink) of the Salem Witch Trials with his impromptu prosecution of Hillary Clinton.
One segment that particularly drew Jost and Che’s attention though was Rudy Giuliani‘s explosive speech for Trump on the first night of the convention.
“Nothing unites people like screaming at them,” Jost said before sarcastically mocking the former mayor. “It sounded like the cable went out in the middle of The Price is Right. ‘What happened to it!?'”
They weren’t done there though. Kate McKinnon also made an appearance as Ruth Bader Ginsburg, dishing out several slams on Trump in reference to the feud between the mogul and the Supreme Court Justice.
“If my mind is shot, then Donald Trump’s mind is shot, stabbed, strangled, put in a vat of wet cement, and dumped in the Gowanus Canal,” McKinnon said. When asked about the possibility that Christie might take the vacant seat left by Antonin Scalia, McKinnon-Ginsburg snarked “I’d rather have an empty chair than a broken chair.”
