President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visited the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., where Rep. Steve Scalise is being treated for the gunshot wound he sustained during a mass shooting earlier in the day on Wednesday.
CBS’s Mark Knoller reported on Twitter that the presidential couple spent half an hour in the hospital:

The President also Tweeted about his visit shortly after he left the medical facility.
Just left hospital. Rep. Steve Scalise, one of the truly great people, is in very tough shape – but he is a real fighter. Pray for Steve!

According to reporting from CNN on Anderson Cooper 360, the Trumps were unable to actually see the wounded congressman.
Washington Hospital Center also gave an update on Rep. Scalise’s condition in a Wednesday press release.
Congressman Steve Scalise sustained a single rifle shot to the left hip. The bullet travelled across his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs, and causing severe bleeding. He was transported in shock to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a Level I Trauma Center. He underwent immediate surgery, and an additional procedure to stop bleeding. He has received multiple units of blood transfusion. His condition is critical, and he will require additional operations. We will provide periodic updates.
