Trump Details Confrontation with Putin on Election Meddling: ‘I Said, Did You Do It?’

President Trump gave an interview to Reuters’ Steve Holland today in which he discussed his recent private meeting with Vladimir Putin.

The President first defended his son, Donald Trump Jr., over the meeting he held with the Russian lawyer. and while the President said he was personally unaware of the meeting, he doesn’t see a problem with it.

“I think many people,” he observed, “would have held that meeting.”

Trump then provided some details on how he confronted Putin about interference in the 2016 election:

Trump said he spent the first 20 or 25 minutes of his more than two-hour meeting with Putin last Friday in Germany on the election meddling subject.

“I said, did you do it? And he said no, I did not. Absolutely not. I then asked him a second time in a totally different way. He said absolutely not,” Trump said.

The President expanded on his initial tweets about the meeting from just days ago:
