Twitter Ruthlessly Mocks Breitbart Writer Over His Freakout of Vogue Cover Featuring Statue of Liberty
Vogue Magazine is celebrating its historic 125th anniversary with “American Beauty” Jennifer Lawrence as the cover story.
However, Breitbart writer John Carney couldn’t help but notice a certain something in the background.
We’re going to have to create a full #MAGA shadow cultural industry because the Opposition Media can’t even do fashion without attacking us pic.twitter.com/NRPf2JUfsy

Carney tweeted, “We’re going to have to create a full #MAGA shadow cultural industry because the Opposition Media can’t even do fashion without attacking us.”
Apparently, even Vogue Magazine is part of the “opposition media,” and judging from the tweet, Carney is implying that showing the Statue of Liberty is an “attack” on Trump supporters, especially since CNN’s Jim Acosta invoked the poem on the New York landmark to debate White House advisor Stephen Miller on immigration earlier this month.
This sparked a giant mockery of the tweet.
?And I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men online

When you think the Statue of Liberty is an attack. (also when you think the administration is “us”) https://t.co/75fVjR6SGf

You know you’re one of the good guys when you’re apparently triggered by the Statue of Liberty https://t.co/0Xg9YNElRD

Breitbart dude thinks this Vogue cover featuring Jennifer Lawrence and the Statue of Liberty is an attack on the right ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ pic.twitter.com/HxEEtL3oU8

Just a thought, but maybe if you’re triggered by the Statue of Liberty the United States of America is not the right place for you.

The Statue of Liberty belongs to all of us, you hateful human carbuncle. The only thing bigots can claim ownership of is racism. pic.twitter.com/tUS89EC9VJ

lol at the idea that the statue of liberty is explicitly anti-trump now https://t.co/s4vYvDbc12

After his tweet went viral, Carney doubled down.
The reaction by leftists to my criticism of Vogue’s cover is all the proof you need about its political content.
— John Carney (@carney) August 10, 2017
If you want the Statue of Liberty to be a non-partisan symbol of America, don’t make her central to your case against immigration reform.
— John Carney (@carney) August 10, 2017
Damn. You guys are right. The Weaponization of the Statue of Liberty against immigration reform is a figment of my imagination. pic.twitter.com/KZnhbzQ6gn

Me: Let’s reduce legal immigration.
Left: But Statue of Liberty says No!
Me: The left is using SoL against us.
Left: Right-wing paranoia! pic.twitter.com/Fw2HjTfgfi— John Carney (@carney) August 10, 2017
Vogue confirmed to Politico reporter Hadas Gold that the cover was shot in early June, roughly two months before Acosta and Miller and their infamous spat over the Statue of Liberty.
Vogue tells me this cover was shot the first week of June https://t.co/EAiGAsZLew
