Trump Declares ‘I’ll Never Apologize’ For Iran War Bringing Up Gas Prices: ‘I Did the Right Thing’

President Donald Trump declared on Friday he would “never apologize” for the higher gas prices Americans have paid since the beginning of the Iran War.

The president made the remarks during a rally with law enforcement officials on Long Island to support Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate for New York governor.

Trump mocked how Democrats “keep talking about affordability,” and how the press had been “screaming ‘what about eggs?'” on his first day in office, blaming Democrats for this “hoax” because “they are the ones that caused the affordability” issues and now “we’re bringing the prices way down.”

“And after we finish defeating Iran — which is being very badly defeated — pretty soon I’ll be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States,” Trump said, touting how his blockade meant that “no ships get through unless we want them to.”

“We’re doing really good — we’re doing good in every way. You know, I built the military and used it — a little more than I wanted to, frankly, but that’s okay, because we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” Trump continued, before digging into the issue of gas prices:

I just got back. I was in Iowa helping some people, and I was in office, and we’re looking at the pump, and it’s $1.95 a gallon, and another one was $1.85. I said, $1.85 a gallon, and I meet them the following day, I said, we have bad news for you guys. We have to make a little journey to the Middle East because we have to put out a potential disaster, a potential very big fire, fire like you’ve never seen.

We can’t let Iran keep going. They would’ve have had a nuclear — if we didn’t hit the B-2 bombers, if we didn’t hit them, you would have had a nuclear weapon, and it would have been a very sad day for this country and for the entire world.

So I said we’re gonna have to put out the fire in the Middle East and we’ve done that. They are never going to have a nuclear weapon. We have loaded up.

So I just say this. So, for you to pay a tiny little bit more for your gasoline, just remember, you’re doing it so that a very evil country cannot have — a country, really, it’s the number one state sponsor of terror in the world, we don’t want them to have a nuclear weapon. So remember that. When you have to pay a little bit more, you’re at $4, it’s okay, I mean, it’s not — I’ll never apologize, I did the right thing, but you could — if you didn’t have — you would be — I had it down to below $2 in many states. And California can’t include because they keep taxing, taxing, taxing. You lower the oil price and they end up taxing you more than what you lower it.

You just have to remember that what we’re doing is great service for the world, not only for ourselves but for the world, and we’re really doing a great job. Our military is unbelievable, the blockade is unstoppable. It’s a wall of steel. The blockade is a wall of steel.

Earlier this week, GasBuddy reported that Americans were experiencing the “highest ever” national average price per gallon in history this late in the year, at $4.03 per gallon. According to data reviewed by the organization’s analysts, the national average price had never been above $4 after August 12.

Tracking the gas prices over the past year shows a clear spike in the wake of the start of the Iran War in late February.
