WATCH: CNN’s Zeleny Confronts Sarah Sanders On Why She Reportedly Wanted to Avoid Border Policy Briefing
During today’s White House press briefing, Sarah Huckabee Sanders tussled with CNN’s Jeff Zeleny over a report from his network stating that she didn’t want to face the media Monday to defend President Donald Trump‘s immigration policy.
Zeleny heard from a White House official that DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was brought for Monday’s briefing in order to help the press secretary refract questions about the Trump Administration’s policy of breaking up migrant families at the border. This report came in after Sanders’ briefing was pushed back several hours today.
A White House official tells @jeffzeleny that @PressSec didn't want to do the briefing today amid questions on child separation policy, so @SecNielsen is being flown in from New Orleans to take questions.

Sanders apparently noticed Zeleny’s reporting, and even though she allowed him to ask a question, she snapped at him and CNN for how they “falsely accused me of not wanting to be here.”
To that point, Zeleny asked “Why did you decide to have secretary Nielsen answer questions instead of you?”
