An unidentified demonstrator in a “fuck the Police” t-shirt was pepper sprayed and detained by Baltimore officers Saturday night, according to video captured by the Associated Press.
The incident occurred just minutes after the 10 p.m. curfew, lifted Sunday morning by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, went into effect.
According to a CNN reporter who was nearby, the man may have thrown a glass bottle at officers before being pepper sprayed; she said he was the first person to have been detained Saturday night.
The man was dragged off the streets by officers and leaned against the building, where the AP video shows officers pouring water onto the his face to ease the effects of the pepper spray.
Largely peaceful protests over the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody turned violent Monday, when several stores were looted or burned following Gray’s funeral. Since then protesters have continued to gather and defy the curfew, leading to occasional clashes with police.
