‘What Channel is This?’: Watch Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez in a Cringeworthy CNBC Interview

Things are going well for former New York Yankees Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter these days. Rodriguez has been lauded for has broadcast work on Fox and is dating Jennifer Lopez, while Jeter is reportedly close to purchasing the Miami Marlins along with Jeb Bush.

But the retired ballplayers were not inclined to discuss those subjects or, really, anything unrelated to their charitable endeavors, during a Tuesday appearance on CNBC. Nonetheless, interviewer Bob Pisani tried to awkwardly probe on some of these subjects.

It didn’t go well.

“The press made a little thing about the back-and-forth between you two,” Pisani said, referencing rumors of the initial friction between the two when Rodriguez joined the Yankees in 2004. “Was that real or serious ever?”

Rodriguez laughed nervously, while Jeter delivered a steely response.

“You’re bringing up stories from about 20 years ago, huh?” Jeter said.

“History Channel,” Rodriguez added.

Pisani then lobbed a softball to try and recover, pivoting to a charity question. But even that was interrupted when another retired Yankee great, Reggie Jackson, walked right into the shot and patted A-Rod on the shoulder.

“What’s up, Reg?” Rodriguez said.

Then Pisani turned to Jeter, incorrectly addressing him as “Alex.” The Captain let that one go.

The CNBC reporter then asked Rodriguez about his appearance at the previous night’s Met Gala, along with Lopez.

“Wow! This interview’s going all types of places,” Rodriguez said.

The five-minute conversation was positively cringeworthy at times.

“What channel is this?” Jeter asked at one point.

We’ll answer that now, Derek. Watch above, via CNBC.
