Terry Moran Indicts Himself as He Tries to Slam ABC News for Spiking Fauci Coverage

There has been a measure of intrigue as one castaway journalist has been trashing his former stomping grounds. Terry Moran caused some ripples when he came out on The Fifth Column podcast to declare his longtime journalism home, ABC News, was a hothouse of Leftist ideology. There is little surprise that his former network lacks in terms of thought diversity. But one specific instance in his interview jumps out.

He detailed a story that happened when he was doing reporting on the Covid virus, and the origins of that outbreak that led to the global pandemic. Moran explained that after his report was finished and ready for broadcast, editorial and legal stepped in and diluted much of his coverage pertaining to the possibility of a lab leak being the source of the virus.

Conclusivity is still an evasive entity today, but over the years the tide of theorizing of the origins has shifted. The more reports that come out about the desire at the time to squelch any talk of the laboratory being the origin leads to that becoming the prevailing thought. Moran told the hosts he experienced that smothering effort firsthand.

He laid out how he concluded his report when, on the day of the broadcast, his work had been completely neutered of any speculation on a lab escape. Then he dropped the grenade when he said he had been told that the impetus for this had been Dr. Anthony Fauci being made privy to Moran’s report ahead of the broadcast.

The former ABC correspondent goes on to say he expressed harsh anger that day and battled for his journalism, but ultimately his report had been rendered impotent. He said he disavows it completely and has refused to watch his segment, as he does not regard it as his own. Yet, this also manages to call into question his own foundational standards.

Why is it that this episode, occurring in early 2021, had not been exposed by Moran earlier? Given how the thinking on the source of the virus at the time was in flux, having firm efforts made to shut down discussion could have sparked some journalistic interest. It would seem that having figures in power – including the nation’s heralded lead physician on Covid matters – declaring that a topic was off limits would be the type of activity to spark more investigation.

Moran listened as co-host Michael Moynihan mentioned the claims of safety being a factor, in what Moran called direct censorship on the origin story, and how remote it was that anyone would be endangered by just the noting of a viral source. Moran does not directly respond to that, just simply agreeing that this was a time of heightened sensitivity.

But there is another factor in hearing of this ABC effort to silence lab leak discussion. Why did it take this long for Terry Moran to reveal this practice by the network? It has now been over a year since he was let go by ABC News. Moynihan and co-host Matt Welch asked the journalist directly about this reality, and got little in return:

MOYNIHAN: “So did you ever say anything publicly about this, after the fact?”

MORAN: “No. Probably shouldn’t have. But I mean…now.”

WELCH: “He was kind of in the news. Would have been…could have goosed some subscribers there for it over there.”

Moran does not go into any more discussion and steered the talk about the current demonization of Fauci, with which he disagrees. But the point is more than valid; why not come forward with this information that he had been silenced during that tempestuous period of Covid reporting?!

Moran is coming out with this now, after so much has been revealed about Fauci in the recent Congressional hearing and the revelations from his diaries and phone messages. After the man has been shown to have been operating with numerous contradictions between his private and public messaging, there appears to be at least one parallel to what has been seen in the press industry.

Recall how the press acted during Joe Biden’s last year as president, when the press openly ran cover for him regarding his mental state. More straightforward reporting on his condition was only heard after his debate performance, and his issues were made apparent to the general public.

In the same fashion, it seems we are hearing of this silencing effort by Dr. Fauci only once the plausible deniability has been compromised by evidence after it has been shown how he had been in abject contradiction to himself on several key Covid issues, which provides cover to now come out and explain how he had engaged in this practice some years ago.

Moran had not only known of this, he was on the receiving end of Fauci’s censoring efforts. But more than half a decade has elapsed before he comes forward with the details, and after he has long been let go by the network that chilled his reporting.
