Katie Britt has defeated Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) in Alabama’s GOP Senate primary runoff, according to a projection.

Dave Wasserman of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report called the race for Britt at 8:43 p.m. ET.

Brooks, who had and lost the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, narrowly forced Britt into a runoff last month. She was winning big on Tuesday when the race was called.

Britt will face Democrat Will Boyd in November as the Republican Party fights to hold the seat of retiring Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL).

Trump initially endorsed Brooks in the primary, but pulled his support after the the Alabama Republican called on voters to leave the 2020 election behind.

Brooks, an election denier himself, was speaking at a Trump rally last year in Alabama when he said Republicans should focus on future races. Trump blasted him as “woke.”

“Mo Brooks of Alabama made a horrible mistake recently when he went ‘woke’ and stated, referring to the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, ‘Put that behind you, put that behind you,’” Trump said.

The 68-year-old hardline conservative disagreed with Trump’s assessment he had been compromised by the left.

“I have not changed,” he said, while he also called himself “the only proven America First candidate.”

Trump endorsed Britt a week ago after it had become apparent she was leading the race. In his endorsement, he ripped Brooks:

Last year I endorsed Mo Brooks for the U.S. Senate because I thought he was a Fighter, especially when it came to the Rigged and Stolen Presidential Election of 2020. The evidence is irrefutable. Then, out of nowhere, and for seemingly no reason, Mo backtracked and made a big mistake by going Woke at our massive Cullman, Alabama Rally.

[…]

He foolishly started listening to the wrong consultants and not to the people, and his 54-point lead evaporated overnight. Likewise, his words caused me to withdraw my Endorsement, and Mo has been wanting it back ever since—but I cannot give it to him!

Brooks lashed out at Trump after he endorsed Britt.

“It’s quite clear that Donald Trump has no loyalty to anyone or anything but himself,” Brooks told a reporter.
