James Carville Unloads on Listener for Attacking Two-Party System: ‘Stupid Cocktail Party Left-Wing BS’

James Carville activated his “Ragin’ Cajun” mode, going off on a fan who questioned the two-party system in the U.S., with the veteran strategist saying he was regurgitating “stupid cocktail party left-wing bullsh*t.”

Carville’s mini-rant happened on the Sunday episode of his Politics War Room podcast.

A viewer/listener named Pete in Raleigh, North Carolina, sent a message to the show, saying, “There are two problems with a two-party system: Politicians rarely deviate from the party line and almost always vote as a block, and the parties often don’t have platforms — they just oppose the other party. Is there any hope for change?”

Carville told him he was ignorant to ask the question, because if he looked at the parties in the U.S., he would see Republicans are to blame for most issues he’s probably upset about.

“I have no reason to believe you’re anything but a well-motivated and ill-informed guy — that’s the same old path and bullsh*t,” Carville answered. “Can you name a single positive economic indicator in the last 75 years that Democratic presidents have not staggeringly outperformed Republican presidents? Let me give you the answer: You can’t.”

He went on, saying Democratic presidents have done a much better job expanding healthcare. Carville also said Republicans are to blame for 85% of the nearly-$40 trillion in U.S. debt. If Pete had done his research, Carville said he obviously wouldn’t have griped about Republicans, not the current system.

“You’re a good guy and a smart guy,” Carville went on. “Do me a favor: Study the difference! Before you go and repeat some stupid cocktail party left-wing bullsh*t! But I think you’re a good guy, Pete.”

Carville’s co-host Al Hunt agreed that he hoped the current system would remain in place.

“I think the two-party system serves us well,” he said. “Some of your criticism is correct, but I think when you start to get three and four parties, governing becomes much more harder. Look at some of the European countries.”

And despite Carville’s harsh critique of Pete’s question, he told him to, “keep ’em comin’. We don’t take it personally.”

He then told Pete to “keep learning.”
