Republican New York Lawmakers Move To Expel ‘Fraudster’ George Santos From Congress After New Charges

New York House Republican lawmakers plan to introduce a measure to have Rep. George Santos (R-NY) expelled from Congress over his new criminal charges.
Rep. Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY) released a statement on Wednesday claiming fellow New York GOP Reps. Nick LaLota, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, Nick Langworthy, and Brandon Williams will co-sponsor an expulsion resolution against Santos. All six of these Republicans are first-term lawmakers.
“George Santos’ many deceptions coupled with the ever-expanding legal case against him further strengthen my long-held belief that he is unfit to serve in Congress, and for that reason, I will be sponsoring a resolution to immediately expel George Santos from the House of Representatives,” D’Esposito tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.

The move comes after Santos was indicted earlier this week with 10 new criminal charges, accusing him of stealing campaign contributors’ financial information and charging their credit cards without permission. Moreover, the embattled lawmaker is also charged with lying to the FEC about campaign contribution from his family.
Previously, the six lawmakers voted in May along with the rest of the GOP to defer the issue of dealing with Santos to the House Ethics Committee. Santos, 35, now faces a total of 23 criminal charges.
Santos has maintained his innocence despite the new charges and claimed he would continue running for reelection. The New York lawmaker also claimed he would not accept a plea deal from prosecutors.
