Former President Donald Trump boasted on Wednesday that the candidate he endorsed in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District Republican primary won the race – despite having endorsed his opponent too.

Abe Hamadeh won the Republican primary for Arizona’s 8th Congressional District on Wednesday, beating his primary rival Blake Masters, who came second.

Trump was quick to boast about Hamadeh’s victory on social media, noting that Hamadeh had been “endorsed by President Trump.” However, Trump had also endorsed Masters too.

While Trump had initially endorsed Hamadeh over Masters, he backtracked just days before the race, giving his endorsement to both candidates.

“Blake Masters is a very successful businessman, and an incredibly strong supporter of our Movement to Make America Great Again – He is smart and tough!” wrote Trump in his endorsement. “Likewise, Abe Hamadeh, a Veteran, former prosecutor, and fearless fighter for Election Integrity, has been with me all the way!”

He continued, “They will both be spectacular, and I’m pleased to announce that both Blake Masters and Abe Hamadeh have my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Congressman of Arizona’s 8th Congressional District — THEY WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!”

Trump gave his last-minute endorsement to Masters just weeks after selecting JD Vance to be his 2024 running mate. Vance and Masters are both close associates of billionaire PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel, and Vance had previously endorsed Masters in the race over Hamadeh.
