Trump Rages for ‘Total Immunity’ Because He ‘Was Not Campaigning’ — While Baselessly Claiming Election Was Stolen

Former President Donald Trump took to social media to argue why he deserves “total immunity” in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into election fraud and the event of January 6th.
Trump’s legal team has claimed immunity for the former president, which Smith asked the Supreme Court to decide on as a means to circumvent any delay that would come from the District of Columbia Circuit Court. The Supreme Court passed, which will only likely delay their decision on whether Trump can be tried for alleged crimes as he served as lame-duck president after his defeat to President Joe Biden in November 2020.
Trump argued in the two-part social media post that he should get “total immunity” because he was not campaigning while repeatedly claiming he lost an election only because it was rigged or stolen, but that, as Commander in Chief, it was his duty to bring attention to what he falsely claimed to be a fraud.
Trump also included a 32-page report filled with accusations and footnotes to unverified claims that appear to be straight-up misinformation designed only to confuse the body politic.
In his first social media post, Trump wrote:
Page One: SUMMARY OF ELECTION FRAUD IN THE 2020 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IN THE SWING STATES: I am pleased to share a Report that is fully verified, most of the information was gotten from Government Sources, Tapes, and other Public Records, and compiled by the most highly qualified Election Experts in the Country. These numbers are determinative and, in all cases, are hundreds of thousands of Votes per Swing State more than I needed to WIN that State. If the Republican Senate does not step forward and address this ATROCITY, it will happen again, and be virtually impossible for Republicans to WIN ELECTIONS in the future.
He then followed with:
Page Two: Remember, I was not campaigning—The 2020 Election was LONG OVER. What I was doing is bringing to light the fact that the Election was, without question, Rigged and Stolen. As President, and Commander-in-Chief, it was my duty to do so! If I did not do this, I would have been in violation of my Oath of Office, and the Take Care Clause, which requires the President to “take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” Therefore I am entitled to Total Immunity, because that is exactly what I was doing, Taking Care of our Country, and Guarding it from Rigged and Stolen Elections. Democrats are willing to play a far different game. They are willing to Cheat at levels never seen before.
And sometime later, a third post:
Page Three: Please study these numbers carefully, analyze what’s been done, keep an open mind, and be smart—Because the Democrats are already trying to do it again, but adding one more weapon, Prosecutorial Misconduct—Using the DOJ, FBI, and local Attorney Generals and D.A.’s to go after Crooked Joe Biden’s Political Opponent—ME. This is a Lethal Weapon, but so far my Record Poll Numbers would indicate that it has backfired on them. The Public knows the TRUTH, but Republicans must fight harder and smarter!
What’s missing from all of this is the twisted logic that the supposed deep state US Government that stole the election from him was working under his administration.
Trump’s Attorney General Bill Barr and Director of Cybersecurity Chris Krebs concluded that there was no evidence of widespread fraud that would have led to a different election result. And Trump’s legal team lost all but one court case filed to overturn election results in the five swing states outlined in the nefarious report Trump linked to.
Coincidentally, an election fraud expert hired by Trump to find proof that the election was stolen recently published an essay in USA Today claiming he found no evidence and that the former president has continued to lie about his findings regardless. Shocker.
