‘You Want Us To Break The Law? Is That What You Want?’ KJP Scoffs At Doocy’s Question In Tense Border Wall Exchange

Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy asked Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about the Biden administration’s volte-face on building the border wall – or at least, a small part of it.

President Joe Biden green-lit the construction of 20 miles of border wall in Starr County, Texas as part of funding passed by Congress in 2019 during the Trump administration. As a presidential candidate, Biden pledged not to build any new barriers along the southern border – a staple policy of former President Donald Trump.

Biden has said the border wall does not work.

Doocy asked Jean-Pierre about the matter during Thursday’s press briefing:

DOOCY: He said there will not be another foot of wall constructed in my administration. So, something changed. What?

JEAN-PIERRE: You want us to break the law? Is that what you want? You want us to not comply with the law?

DOOCY: I’m not, I’m asking about –

JEAN-PIERRE: You want us to not comply with the law? You want us to not be an administration that follow[s] the rule of law?

DOOCY: You guys do this all the time. The student loans – the student loan forgiveness program – you went to court to fight for that. If this is such a problem – building 20 miles of wall – why not just go to court?

JEAN-PIERRE: We went to Congress. The Congress appropriates the funding. Congress appropriates the funding. We asked them to not use that funding for that particular purpose. They denied it and now we’re complying with the law.

DOOCY: If you have to build a border wall, but you don’t think that it’s gonna work, then once it’s done, are you just gonna tear it down?

JEAN-PIERRE: I’m not getting into hypotheticals from here. I’m just telling you what I can tell you from here. The facts are that DHS is complying with the law. This is from fiscal year– this was under fiscal year 2019 under Republican leadership, and DHS is required to do this. The president asked multiple times of Congress to reappropriate. They did not. And we’re now complying by the law. Thanks, everybody.
