Mysterious Fake Ads Show Kamala Harris ‘Official Candidate’ For NFL Team

Mysterious ads claiming Vice President Kamala Harris is “the official candidate” of NFL powerhouse franchise the Philadelphia Eagles have turned out to be fake.

Bus stop ads depicting the VP in an Eagles uniform began popping up around the city, with mixed reactions.

One post on X/Twitter claiming the endorsement even came from a “Verified” accout called “NFL Notifications” — an illustration of how the “Verified” label has changed:

But the actual Eagles put out a statement on X/Twitter confirming the ads were fakes — which did not convince many Trump fans.

“We are aware counterfeit political ads are being circulated and are working with our advertising partner to have them removed,” the team wrote.

On Tuesday morning’s edition of CNN News Central, CNN’s Coy Wire got to the bottom of the mystery — the ads were the result of “vandalism”:

KATE BOLDUAN: So the Philadelphia Eagles are pushing back this morning against fake ads that have appeared around the city. Fake ads claiming the vice president, Kamala Harris, is the, quote, official candidate of the Philadelphia Eagles. CNN’s Coy Wire has more on this. This, the whole the whole concern over fake ads has gone like a whole different left turn when it comes to this one. What are you hearing about this?

COY WIRE: Yeah. And all over Philadelphia. Kate, this recurring theme of having to question the political messages we see, whether they’re endorsements by celebrities or entertainers infiltrating the sports world, a series of fake political ads popping up on bus stops around Philadelphia depicting Democratic presidential candidate VP Kamala Harris in an Eagles helmet, calling her the team’s official candidate.

A web address leads to the team’s official site, to a page that encourages voter registration, but that page does not endorse any particular candidate.

Now, the Eagles posted on social yesterday that they were aware of the counterfeit ads being circulated, and were working to have them removed.

The media company responsible for the advertising on the bus shelter said they were vandalized, and that people occasionally find a way to unlock the ad box to insert unauthorized copy.
