Trump Insists Don McGahn Had a ‘Better Chance of Being Fired’ Than Mueller: ‘Never a Big Fan!’

President Donald Trump insisted on Saturday that he was not going to fire Bob Mueller and it was really former White House Counsel Don McGahn whose job was on the line since he was not a fan.

“I was NOT going to fire Bob Mueller, and did not fire Bob Mueller. In fact, he was allowed to finish his Report with unprecedented help from the Trump Administration,” Trump wrote in his defensive tweet.  “Actually, lawyer Don McGahn had a much better chance of being fired than Mueller. Never a big fan!”

Trump’s tweet contradicts the Mueller report which indicated Trump ordered McGahn to fire Mueller.

CBS reported after the release of the redacted Mueller report:

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, a redacted version of which was released to the public Thursday morning, revealed President Trump ordered White House counsel Don McGahn to fire Mueller in 2017. McGahn refused to do so and threatened to resign instead, telling an associate the president had asked him to do “crazy shit.”

McGahn has also been in the news in recent days after multiple reports indicated that the White House tried to get McGahn to say Trump obstructed justice.

McGahn declined.
