Colbert: Trump ‘Folded Like an Origami Trump Casino’ Because 70% of People Were ‘Sick to Their Stomach’
Stephen Colbert mocked President Donald Trump for “folding” on his immigration policy that separated illegal immigrant families at the southern border.
Colbert slammed the president for insisting last week that he couldn’t sign an executive order to stop the separation and that only Congress could do it, which was followed by an executive order that actually kept families together.
“And just in time too. Melania was about to turn herself in to the border,” Colbert quipped.
The Late Show host then blasted the “signing ceremony” because Trump “made it look like he did something good” instead of admitting to “ending the evil thing he started.”
“None of these folks in the administration or anyone who defended them are off the moral meat hook here because they didn’t change this policy because they thought they were wrong. They changed it because it made 70% of Americans sick to their stomach. And make no mistake. Trump folded. He folded like an origami Trump casino.”
He suspected that the “last straw” that convinced Trump to reverse course on the policy were the reports of “tender age shelters” that held toddlers and babies as young as eight months old. He thought “tender age shelters” was a “terrible euphemism” for what he thought was an “internment camp for children.”
Colbert also had some fun at the expense of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen for being harassed by protestors at a Mexican restaurant of all places, which he added took “cajones.”
