Eric Swalwell Tells Joy Reid Yes, He’s ‘Considering’ Run for President: ‘There’s a Lot More to Work For’
As the Democratic presidential field continues to expand, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) tells MSNBC host Joy Reid that he is “considering” a run for president because “there’s a lot more to work for.
On Sunday morning’s edition of MSNBC’s AM Joy, Reid interviewed Swalwell about Trump’s latest attempt to free himself of the Trump shutdown. But at the end of the segment, Reid noted that Swalwell was spending his Sunday in one of the Democratic primary calendar’s early states.
“You’re in South Carolina, are you running for president?” Reid asked.
“I’m considering it,” Swalwell said, without hesitation.
“I was at the Greenville women’s March, and they keep marching, and they have made a lot of progress since two years ago when they started,” Swalwell added. “But there is a lot more to work for.”
“Well, keep us posted, and if you decide to run, we have a great idea for where you could announce,” Reid said.
Swalwell is a member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence, as well as the House Judiciary Committee, posts which have given him very high visibility in the Trump era. In that capacity, the California Democrat has been outspoken about crimes and misdemeanors of which Trump stands accused, and the fact that Democrats are now in the majority doesn’t figure to slow him down any.
In November, Politico reported that Swalwell is “definite;y” running for president, but he has yet to make such an announcement. His quick response to Joy Reid, however, may tell you all you need to know about that.
