Fox’s Faulkner Confronts Kellyanne on Trump Campaign Fundraising Off Oval Speech: ‘I Thought These Weren’t Political?’
Fox News host Harris Faulkner confronted White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on a fundraising email the Trump 2020 campaign sent out ahead President Donald Trump’s Tuesday night Oval Office speech, saying that she thought the urgent immigration address was supposed to be non-political.
“I want to get a point in, because we got — and I’m sure other networks did to — the Trump Pence campaign letter that went out, PR email, a little while ago,” Faulkner said to Conway, during an interview on Outnumbered Overtime. “It says that the campaign for reelection will try and raise a half million dollars in one day off of tonight’s speech. I thought that these speeches were not supposed to be political. What do you say about that?”
“I haven’t seen that letter, and here at the White House, I’m not meant to be political, so I don’t have a comment on that,” Conway replied.
Like a GOP lawmaker being pressed about a particularly controversial Trump tweet, Conway again told Faulkner that she hasn’t “even seen the letter.”
The president is using his speech tonight, which will be carried by the major networks, along with the Democratic response, to once again make his case for a border wall amid the government shutdown over funding for the proposed barrier. The Trump campaign’s “Official Secure the Border Fund” email referenced by Faulkner asked supporters to donate at least $5.
“We need to raise $500,000 in ONE DAY. I want to know who stood with me when it mattered most so I’ve asked my team to send me a list of EVERY AMERICAN PATRIOT who donates to the Official Secure the Border Fund,” stated the Trump-signed memo. “Please make a special contribution of $5 by 9 PM EST to our Official Secure the Border Fund to have your name sent to me after my speech.”
