GOP Senator Insists Trump and Putin Will Decide on Future of Ukraine: Zelensky Is ‘Not Even in the Game’

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will have no say in what future holds for his country.

Zelensky was in the United States last week for a meeting with President Donald Trump, but that ended disastrously when the two men shouted at one another for several minutes in front of the press. Furthermore, Zelensky left the country without reaching an agreement on a deal to continue U.S. aid in the war against Russia in return for access to Ukraine’s mineral resources.

In the aftermath of the heated clash, Republicans have blamed Zelensky for his behavior toward Trump. Trump, according to Fox’s Peter Doocy, has even gone as far as demanding a public apology before resuming talks on the minerals deal.

On Monday, Tuberville reiterated many of Trump’s criticisms of Zelensky on an afternoon appearance on Newsmax. He also claimed that it will be Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin — not Zelensky — who will ultimately decide on Ukraine’s future.

“Zelensky, for some reason, wants this war to keep going,” Tuberville said. “And he has been, I guess, brainwashed by the globalist socialist group in in Europe, and even some over here that [say], ‘Hey just keep this thing going. We’ll keep funneling money to you.’ But they couldn’t be more wrong. President Trump is tired of people dying [and] our American taxpayer payer dollars going over there, and so he’ll try to get this this finished; but Zelensky’s gonna play hardball. But you know what? He’s not even in the game. It’s gonna be Putin and President Trump, and the people on our side, that will end up making this decision for the future of Ukraine.”
