The first trailer for Ridley Scott’s star-studded The Martian was released on Monday and there was something eerily familiar about it for anyone who (spoiler alert!) saw last year’s Interstellar.
For his next film after that surprise cameo in Christopher Nolan’s space-time epic, Matt Damon is once again playing an astronaut who is left alone on a distant planet to die, or, more likely in this case, miraculously survive.
In The Martian, which will hit theaters on November 25, Damon plays NASA botanist Mark Watney who is accidentally left behind when a team that has set up a base on Mars is forced to abort their mission. He has to figure out a way to contact NASA and then stay alive for the four years it will take his Interstellar co-star Jessica Chastain (along with Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejiofor and others) to rescue him, while Kristen Wiig silently prays for his survival at home.
