Mayor Pete Buttigieg Slams Fox News Hosts Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham on Fox News
Mayor Pete Buttigieg had few kind words for President Donald Trump‘s tweets on Sunday night.
Yet his criticism was not solely of the president. The 2020 hopeful also called out Fox News hosts Laura Ingraham and Tucker Carlson for not appearing on Fox News in good faith.
During a Fox News Town Hall, the mayor was asked by Chris Wallace how he plans to handle Trump’s insults and tweets.
“Tweets are,” Buttigieg replied, before pausing. “I don’t care.”
His comment drew strong applause.
Wallace then argued that tweets are a very effective way for Trump to reach the nation.
Buttigieg countered that it was a very effective way for Trump to reach the media instead.
“It is an effective way to command the attention of media, we need to make sure we are changing the channel from this show that he’s created,” he said, adding. “I get it, look it is mesmerizing.. it is the nature of grotesque things you can’t look away.”
Mayor Pete then called attention to the voices of Fox that he condemned in his statement on Saturday.
Noting that there was controversy about him even coming on Fox News, Buttigieg said this slamming the Fox News hosts on Fox News:
“I get where that’s coming from especially when you see what goes on with some opinion hosts on this network. I mean when you’ve got Tucker Carlson saying that immigrants make America dirty. When you’ve got Laura Ingraham comparing detention centers with children in cages to summer camps.”
“Summer camps,” he added for emphasis. “There is a reason why anybody has to swallow hard and think twice before participating in this media ecosystem.”
He further noted while some of the opinion hosts are not there in “good faith,” he feels a lot of viewers are tuning in “in good faith.”
Then defending his decision to appear on the town hall he stressed, “I think we have to find people where they are,” and update our vocabulary to “connect with Americans from coast-to-coast.”
