This morning on MSNBC, during a discussion with former New York Governor George Pataki about a millionaire tax in New York, Pataki argued that in a free market, taxing the super-rich never achieves the desired revenue for the government. Instead Pataki suggested those who want to target the super-rich are really just interested in achieving “some sort of social justice.” Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski promptly wondered what’s wrong with that?
Although other participants in the conversation like Donny Deutsch were concerned with focusing on revenues, Mika wanted to know “what’s wrong with social justice by the way?” That prompted some laughter and eagerness amongst the panelists to talk over one another, but during the commotion Mika did let slip out another potentially controversial admission. Mika said “a recalibration of our moral compass,” apparently with the implication being that such a recalibration would not be bad for society either.
Maybe these comments accurately reflect Mika’s belief or maybe with so many guys eager to talk, it was just difficult for her to squeeze any more words in to elaborate on her position, but either way Mika sure did stir the pot.
