Steve Bannon Shares 2020 Prediction With Maher: ‘I Think There Will Be Three-Way Race’
On Friday night, Bill Maher probed former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon about his thoughts about Democrats and the 2020 race.
Maher began by asking Bannon “who scares” him and began listing potential 2020 candidates like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), and former Attorney General Eric Holder. He then invoked Michael Avenatti, saying that he could be the “Trump of 2020.”
“The guy who’s the outsider, who like blows through the regular politician because he looks different and he’s got balls,” Maher said.
“If Bernie Sanders had an ounce of Avenatti’s fearlessness, he would have been the Democratic nominee and we would have had a much tougher time beating him,” Bannon told Maher.
“Bernie doesn’t have fearlessness?” Maher asked.
“Not like Avenatti,” Bannon responded. “He’s got a fearlessness and he’s a fighter. I think he’ll go through a lot of this field if he decides to stick with it.”
The former Trump campaign chief expressed that we’re in a “new age” where a “professional politician” is no longer desirable, citing someone media savvy like Avenatti or Oprah Winfrey will rise “at the end of the day.”
He then offered his 2020 predictions.
“You’re gonna have Trump on the right, a politician- maybe a Kamala Harris or somebody on the left, and I think you’ll have a Bloomberg or a Romney or somebody in the center,” Bannon said. “I think it will be a three-way race.”
