Trevor Noah Forces Rachel Maddow to Endorse One of the GOP Candidates

Before she had some fun at Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s expense on her own MSNBC show last night, Rachel Maddow tested out her material with Trevor Noah on The Daily Show. And unlike Donald Trump, she seemed hesitant to take credit for his decision to drop out of the race for speaker.

“I don’t know if it was me,” Maddow said after Noah congratulated her for driving him out of the race with her criticism. “He was a weird choice,” she said of McCarthy, noting that he has less experience than any House speaker since 1891. And that’s not to mention his “speaking problem.”

Maddow proceeded to preview the Democratic “forum” — don’t call it a “debate” — that she will be moderating in South Carolina on November 6. She predicted that Bernie Sanders will win the New Hampshire primary, at which point his nomination will start to look a lot less crazy. “No matter how unlikely something looks, once you get a first win,” she said, then all of a sudden “it can change all the other dynamics.”

Finally, Noah surprised Maddow by pulling a Larry Wilmore and asking her to keep it 100 by picking one GOP candidate that she would vote for if someone held a gun to her head. She tried to avoid answering at all costs, even reconfiguring the question to say which Republican has the best chance of winning in a general election.

Even then, Maddow really did not want to say one of their names out loud, but finally landed on John Kasich.

“There you have it, Rachel Maddow endorses John Kasich!” Noah exclaimed at the end of the interview.
