Trump Aide Mercedes Schlapp: ‘Why The Heck Are We Having a Hearing’ If Dems Already ‘Believe’ Ford?!?

On Monday night, White House Director of Strategic Communications Mercedes Schlapp appeared on Fox News and defended President Donald Trump‘s Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Schlapp began by telling Laura Ingraham that the White House is “so proud” of Kavanaugh and his wife Ashley Kavanaugh for their interview with Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum, saying they “spoke from the heart” and that they “sent a very powerful message.”

He’s gonna stand strong. And he’s not going to be intimidated by those Democrats who are placing false claims on him,” Schlapp said. “He is strong in defending his character and his integrity, and I think that was such an important message for the American people to hear tonight. The pain that they are going through, the vile threats in their family, and the mere fact that the Democrats are playing politics with this family, with this man’s life, someone who has dedicated his life to public service.”

She then took aim at Senate Democrats who have already declared that they “believe” Dr. Christine Blasey Ford ahead of Thursday’s hearing.

“When they say, ‘The verdict is in, Brett Kavanaugh is guilty,’ they ‘believe’ her, then why the heck are we having a hearing if they’re believing her and not even giving Brett Kavanaugh the fair process that he deserves,” Schlapp asked, “especially after six weeks that they had these lengthy hearings, that they’ve asked him to over 1,000 questions, and yet the Democrats continue to try to destroy Brett Kavanaugh’s reputation.”

Ingraham compared the Democrats’ “tactics” to “political terrorism,” urging Republicans to not delay the vote any further.

“I think we all agree it’s time for a vote. This is all the Democrats are trying to do to buy time,” Schlapp told Ingraham. “They want to figure out what other story they can try to fabricate.”

“And they’ll come up with something else,” Ingraham added.

“Exactly!” Schlapp exclaimed. “Enough is enough.”
