Trump Disputes ‘False Rumor’ About Rocky Relationship with UK PM May: ‘We Like Each Other a Lot’
— CBS News (@CBSNews) January 25, 2018
President Trump met with British Prime Minister Theresa May at the Davos Economic Forum on Thursday, and he took the opportunity to dispute recent reports that the two leaders have a frosty relationship with each other.
“We have a really great relationship,” Trump said. “Some people don’t necessarily believe that, but I can tell you…I think the feeling is mutual from the standpoint that we like each other a lot.”
(May did not return the compliment.)
Trump then said he wanted to correct a “false rumor” about the two, and he proceeded wax on about the military and economic progress the United States and Great Britain have seen recently.
Trump is most likely referring to a piece from Bloomberg this week which contained anecdotes about how he and May have had several tense moments and diplomatic difficulties since he was sworn into office. One of the most revealing parts of the report stated that he wouldn’t visit the United Kingdom unless May could assure him that she would do something to keep protesters at bay and curb critical coverage from the British press.
