White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is expected to hold a briefing with the press corps this afternoon.
The biggest issue of the day is undoubtedly the recently Syrian chemical attack and what the response from the Trump administration will be. President Trump condemned the attack yesterday and even Vladimir Putin in particular for Russia’s involvement in Syria, but others like Senator John McCain have been saying tweets don’t mean anything without action. Today the President said “major decisions” on Syria would be made in the next 24-48 hours.
Today is also the first day of John Bolton‘s tenure as National Security Adviser, following Friday’s departure of H.R. McMaster.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg may also be a big topic, given his testimony to Congress this week. Zuckerberg is in DC speaking with lawmakers today, so Huckabee Sanders might be asked about his already-released testimony and what the White House thinks about the privacy issues raised in the news recently.
The ongoing concerns about a trade war with China may also come up.
Earlier today, Trump tweeted, “When a car is sent to the United States from China, there is a Tariff to be paid of 2 1/2%. When a car is sent to China from the United States, there is a Tariff to be paid of 25%. Does that sound like free or fair trade. No, it sounds like STUPID TRADE – going on for years!”
Huckabee Sanders will almost certainly be asked about this issue.
